Orlando Pirates secure 1-0 win against Amazulu in DSTV Premiership

Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates FC recorded a 1-0 win against AmaZulu FC at the Orlando Stadium to move up alongside Stellenbosch FC in the DSTV Premiership League standings. With their victory in sight, they are preparing for the confrontation with Royal AM on April 28. On the side, AmaZulu find themselves sitting three points behind Golden Arrows. Coach Pablo Franco Martin’s team is aiming for a win against Chippa United at home on April 27.

Despite a start from Usuthu, with players like Hendrick Ekstein and Victor Letsoalo showing energy on the pitch, they were unable to capitalize on the scoring chances. The match took a turn when Abubaker Mobara was sent off in the minute for impeding a scoring opportunity for Orlando Pirates, leaving AmaZulu to play with ten men. The first half ended in a stalemate that left the fans tense.

AmaZulu’s resilience was commendable throughout the match.
Despite being outnumbered, the team put pressure on the Pirates goalkeeper, Sipho Chaine. The former Bloemfontein Celtic player played a role in stopping shots from Augustine Mulenga and Ben Motshwari, who were previously players for the Pirates, and kept a clean sheet.

The match took a turn in the minute when Jose Riveiro made a move by replacing Kabelo Dlamini with Monnapule Saleng. Saleng, known for his energy and speed, set up the assist for Tshegofatso Mabasa. Mabasa seized the opportunity in the minute to score his goal of the season in the competition, securing a hard-earned win for the Pirates.
