5 nail trends that experts say will dominate summer 2024

Summer is just around the corner (finally!) and now is the time to look for summer manicure inspiration. Summer is probably my favorite time to experiment with nail trends. The rest of the year I usually keep it quiet with neutral pink or timeless red. However, in the summer I like to experiment. The brighter days and warmer weather always encourage me to step out of my comfort zone when I go to the salon. Although we can’t guarantee sunny weather in Britain, we can at least try to manifest it without manicures. And if you’re going on vacation, this is the time to try something new, like a colorful French manicure.

Curious about the nail trends we all want to try for the summer of 2024, I spoke to famous manicurist and ambassador of Sally Hansen, Michelle Class, whose client list reads like a red carpet guest list. Class tends to fall into the hands of celebrities like Margot Robbie, J.Lo, Bella Hadid and Naomi Campbell as they prep their nails before heading out to premieres and front campaigns, so what she doesn’t know about nails isn’t worth knowing.

1. Colorful French tips

It’s a trend we see coming every summer, and the colorful French manicure is still big news for 2024, says Class. “When it comes to summer, you can expect vibrant colors such as purple, like Sally Hansen’s Knowledge Is Flower (£8), as well as lime green and sunny yellow to dominate summer nail designs,” she says. “These look super cute and replace your classic white French mani with a pop of color.” If you’re DIYing at home, make sure you use a fine-tipped nail art brush so you get a precise French manicure every time.

2. Jelly nails

Are you ready for the return of jelly? It’s a fun way to wear your favorite sunglasses with a twist. “Jelly nails will be very popular this year,” says Class. “Characterized by translucent, jelly-like finishes in different colors, the jelly effect gives a playful and modern twist to summer manicures. Think of a syrupy-transparent texture with a pop of color.

There are a number of jelly nail polishes on the market, but you can easily turn your favorite shade into a jelly finish with the Class tip. “You can do this by mixing your chosen shade with Sally Hansen’s Shiny Miracle Gel topcoat (£8),” she says, which also provides a glossy, long-lasting finish.
