Nikola Jokic’s honest statement after Nuggets vs. Lakers Game 1

The Denver Nuggets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 1 of this opening round, and Nikola Jokic was dominant as always. Jokic finished with 32 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists and did everything for Denver in the win.

During ESPN’s post-game broadcast, Jokic said: “They took the lead in the first half, we were down three at halftime and the mentality had to change. I think our defense in the second half was great, and so it went too.” We have to play if we want to do something.”

Jokic has credited his teammates for their defense and execution down the stretch of this game, which is how Denver gets many of their wins. While the Nuggets began to pull away late in the third quarter, the Lakers made a run in the fourth, which the Nuggets responded to very well.

The Nuggets are the defending champions for a reason and showed how dominant they can be in this game. No team knows that better than the Lakers, who remain winless against the Nuggets from last season’s Western Conference Finals series.

The Nuggets know this series won’t be easy, and they came off a big Game 1 win over the Lakers that they’ll look to build on in Game 2.
