One person dead after car chase in Southern Utah ends in crash

CEDAR CITY – One person is dead after a police chase that ended with a crash in southern Utah, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

According to a news release from the Department of Public Safety, a vehicle pursuit began in Iron County. The pursuit continued to Highway 89 in Kane County, with officers from several agencies involved in the chase.

According to the release, tire spikes were deployed at the intersection of Highway 89 and State Route 14.

However, the person continued to drive south on Highway 89. A short time later, a second set of tire studs was deployed by a Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

The man crashed his car into an empty officer’s car. The person died from injuries sustained in the crash.

It was not disclosed why the car was chased by police. The victim’s identity was also not provided. The Iron, Garfield, Beaver and Kane County Protocol Team is investigating the incident.
