Texas-TCU baseball series, even after Longhorn’s record shutout on Saturday

Desperate for a win, Texas had another ace up its sleeve.

Junior Ace Whitehead pitched six innings of three-hit baseball as Texas raced to a 7-0 victory over TCU on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. With the win, Texas evened the weekend series with a TCU team that posted a 5-0 victory on Friday night.

Saturday’s game also had a one-hour weather delay.

After nine appearances and 43 1/3 innings this season, Whitehead is now 4-0 with a 3.32 ERA. More specifically, Texas is 5-0 in the games he has started. All five of those starts came after a Longhorn loss.

In addition to Whitehead, Texas got standout performances from Cade O’Hara and Casey Borba on Saturday. O’Hara allowed two hits over three innings of relief pitching and the converted infielder earned this first career save. In his first start since March 17, Borba went 3-for-4 at home with three RBIs for a Texas team that scored five times in the second inning and twice in the third frame.

Texas (23-17, 10-7) and TCU (23-14, 8-12) conclude their series on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The announced starts for this final are UT junior Lebarron Johnson Jr. (1-3, 5.57 ERA) and TCU freshman Mason Bixby (1-0, 3.21).
