Boxers topple George Fox and play Whitman for NWC Championship

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – For the first time in program history, Pacific will play in the Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.

The No. 3 seed Boxers advanced to the final on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 5-4 victory over No. 2 George Fox.

With the score tied at 4-4, the match came down to No. 5 singles, where after dropping the first set 2-6, Pacific freshmen Mia Yamaguchi stormed back to beat George Fox junior Ari Rader 7-5, 6-0.

Yamaguchi had fallen in three sets to Rader at George Fox a week earlier in a match the Bruins won 6-3.

Pacific junior Valentina Casab-Klescova also avenged an earlier loss, beating Elizabeth Cook 6-2, 6-4 in 3 singles.

Pacific junior Cassidy Binderthe 2024 Northwest Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, defeated Kalli Wiker 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles.

Senior Sydnie Binder defeated Riley Bobkiewicz 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 to remain undefeated at 2 singles.

Cassidy and Sydnie Binder also teamed to defeat Bobkiewicz and Cassey Hitch 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles match.

The Boxers will next take on No. 1 Whitman on Sunday at noon. The Blues, a perfect 7-0 in the NWC this spring, shutout Whitworth 5-0 in the semifinals.
